Madness

My mention of Lord Howard of Rising reminds one reader of the musings of Guardian columnist, dissenter and real ale champion Richard Boston, who died in 2006.

Driving past Castle Rising, he could not remember seeing a castle. If there was such an item, he suggested it should be called Castle Rising Castle. And if, say, there had been an uprising there in the Middle Ages, it would have been the Castle Rising Castle Rising. And if the then Minister of Transport (Barbara Castle) had been born there, she would become known as Castle Rising Castle Rising Castle. And if the said person was witnessed in the act of getting up in the morning, the whole incident should be referred to as Castle Rising Castle Rising Castle Rising. “But herein”, he concluded, “begins madness”.
