Eye eye

Massive outbreak of transparent material for the second round of University Challenge last night. Following the model of Only Connect, slices of perspex divided the contestants on each team. The effect was remarkable - the usual muttering on team questions was fully audible, and will take some getting-used-to. (Who was really captaining Exeter ?)

I believe last night's show was also a first for J Paxman, 70, in wearing glasses throughout. Spectacles have been necessary for him to navigate the outside world for around five years. Maybe an insider can tell us whether it was the autocue reaching its largest font, or the size of the question cards that defined Jeremy's choice of eyewear.
