Was the BBC Chair-elect Charles Moore enjoying the weekend coverage of his elevation - or was he one of 17 riders out with the East Sussex and Romney Marsh Hunt ?
The South Coast Hunt Saboteurs were out too, declaring the event near Ashburnham "another shit day for the ESRM". They say the horses were largely confined to uncomfortable tarmac, apart from a few occasions that the hounds, kennelled near Catsfield, strayed into gardens either side.
It if was a duff day, it's not surprising that the recent pandemic fundraising online auction for field sports hasn't been much better. Lot 78, A Day's Hunting with Renowned Journalist and Author Charles Moore has closed with bidding stuck at £850.
Charles has been something of an ambassador for field sports over the years - persuading Boris Johnson to take part in the last legal outing of the ESRM Hunt back in 2005. Mr Johnson, who said he had never ridden before, was astride "the towering buttocks of the biggest horse I have ever seen", called Bertha.
Charles, as we have noted, has become a director of the Countryside Alliance, putting him at odds with Mr Johnson's current fiancee, Carrie Symonds, a campaigner against trophy hunting.
