Rules, please

One hopes there's some proper flesh on this bold statement by new BBC DG Tim Davie: "If you want to be an opinionated columnist or a partisan campaigner on social media then that is a valid choice, but you should not be working at the BBC."

The old rationale for letting people like Gary Lineker, 'working at the BBC' to the tune of £1.75m over 2018/19, say what he thinks on Twitter was that he was in Sport and Entertainment, not News. Is the BBC really going to seek control over the social media activities of everyone in its employ, back by the threat of the sack ? Who's to judge when Tweets qualify someone as a 'partisan campaigner' ?
