The Telegraph joins in the general positioning of Baroness Morgan as the next chair of the BBC. It's slightly odd to see the Johnson-o-gram pushing the post-Government career of someone who was so ambivalent about Boris's political talents, but then Nicky did play her part in the December 2019 General Election.
Baroness Morgan had previously pursued her career with husband Jonathan as a stay-at-home dad. He's risen to leader at Charnwood Council, and is probably pulling in £20k plus expenses. As Culture Secretary, Nicky was on £150k plus. She could easily take £80k+ from the Lords. She's picked up a non-executive role with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, at around £25k for up to 30 days a year. At the BBC she could get £100k pa.
There must be still a modicum of backbone somewhere in the Civil Service; the Baroness will still have to submit herself to a recruitment process. There she can expound further on her view that the BBC should reform itself, and bring forward its preferred alternative to the licence fee. Joyous times ahead !
