The BBC seems to be preparing to launch a new streaming service for North America, offering programmes on politics, culture and ideas. You'll be beside yourself to learn that it will be 'highly-curated'. There is, it seems, already an Editor-in-chief, and there will be a "London team" working with distribution partners in the States.
They're now advertising for a Programming Manager, a role which will apparently sit within "Entertainment Commissioning". The job is described as permanent, and outside the "Career Path Framework". So much of the job ad gives me the willies, but here are some outstanding bits.
Design themes, stunts, and editorial initiatives that drive engagement to the service and provide trigger points for the digital marketing teams.
Oversee the mapping of the schedules onto the wireframe design of the platform partners, both at launch and on an ongoing basis.
Monitors competitor services, both programming and marketing, and is relentlessly proactive in finding tactical and strategic wins against them.
