Pauline conversion

BBC pop supremo Lorna Clarke is perfecting the HR equivalent of the Heimlich Manoeuvre. First, at Radio 2, she re-titled Lewis Carnie, and, in time, he realised he would be an unsuccessful applicant for his own job.

Now, at 6Music, Paul Rodgers has announced his departure, probably days before the station gets a new boss.

Paul's been with the BBC for 28 years. He read English Literature and the NME at Newcastle University, took a PGCE at Loughborough, and then taught English and Humanities at schools in Tottenham and Islington. He probably needed less body armour freelance researching on music shows for Radio 2, which eventually lead to a job. He produced Steve Wright, Matthew Wright, and Hale and Pace.

In 2008, he moved to 6Music. In 2010, BBC Radio boss Tim Davie announced plans to close the station. "I am confident that these proposals are the right way for us to deliver our mission". The BBC Trust, under Sir Michael Lyons, declined the offer. Paul moved up to effectively run the station, and took it past 2m listeners in 2015. It's close to 2.5m now. He may now get to spend more time in his Brittany townhouse...
