The Sunday Times (paywalled) says the BBC is preparing to take an £80m hit by delaying the end of free-tv licences for most over-75s until October. The figures have been prepared for the July meeting of the BBC Board, which is asked to take the decision for this second postponement.
When the scheme is finally introduced, only over-75s on Pension Credit will be entitled to keep watching live tv for free.
It looks like the BBC Board meeting in September - the first with new DG Tim Davie in place - will have to confirm that move, unless Mr Davie can engineer some nifty rapprochement with the current administration.
