We're in our third week of socially-distanced Archers. I'm not a regular listener, but none of those I know are enjoying the monologue-version of this 69-year-old soap.
Some of the writers suggest listening to this style - they call it 'thought voices' - is more enjoyable through headphones. I suspect that next week, managers will get their first sight of internal monthly listening figures, and the audience will be significantly down - probably lower than Radio Borsetshire. Editor Jeremy Howe will be invited for a conversation with Controller Mo, and there'll be a drive to sort this out, before we get to the next five-week cycle of episodes. Come on, BBC - accelerate change.
