"Possibly the most powerful journalist in Britain". Amol Rajan on this week's R4 Media Show, on Paul Royall, Executive Editor Bulletins (6pm and 10pm) BBC News.
Paul, born in Dundee, moved to Reydon just north of Southwold, and got his secondary education at Lowestoft College of FE. Thence to the University of Lancaster, for a degree in English Language and Literature, and Essex for an MA in Social and Political Science. Newspaper journalism first, picking up his NCTJ with Southern Newspapers in Southampton, and then moving to Meridian TV as a reporter.
He joined the BBC News Channel a month after its launch, plugged away at reporting for a year, but since 2000, has been running programmes.
He lives in Winchester. He is under-15 coach for Littleton Junior FC, which has the most professional website in football outside the Premier League. He is clearly a titan of modern broadcasting.
