DG 2020 - 8

If BBC chairman Sir David Clementi were to choose Tim Davie as his next Director General, he'd be picking someone who has already found favour with members of the current Government. Is that a good thing or bad when it comes to fighting the Corporation's corner ?

In 2015, Tim became a Trustee of the Tate; the announcement came jointly from Prime Minister David Cameron; Culture Secretary John Whittingdale and Culture Minister Ed Vaizey. In August last year he was re-appointed, for four years, by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In June 2018, Tim was appointed industry chair of the Creative Industries Council, announced by his co-chairs Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. His current co-chairs are Oliver Dowden and Alok Sharma. The most recent meeting was in March, featuring no less than 14 civil servants.
