Contrary to what former BBC boss Roger Mosey seems to think, BBC TV News viewing figures have held up remarkably well, & the quality gets better & better, especially in the area of foreign reporting. But the Beeb seems perennially reluctant to stand up for itself.— John Simpson (@JohnSimpsonNews) May 31, 2019
In late 2000, when Greg Dyke moved the flagship BBC Nine O'Clock News to 10pm, there were fears it would lose audience. In fact it stayed steady, at over 5m for much of the first year, and the average rose above 6m post 9/11. This last week, the bulletin returned averages of 3.1m on Tuesday, 3.4m on Wednesday and 3.5m on Thursday.
Is Simpson, who previously used BBC News boss James Harding to develop a character in his first thriller, shaping up to use Mosey as a bad guy in the next ?
