Hot news from slow-news start-up Tortoise, released to Press Gazette. They've persuaded an number of companies to sponsor new Tortoise members, giving free subscriptions to be distributed by various charities.
The piece also reveals that the organisation now boasts 8,000 members and 50 staff (75% 'editorial). Mmm. There've been so many special offers encouraging people to join that it's hard to guess how many pay the 'full' subscription, at £288 a year. If they all did, that's £2.3m a year coming in.
Someone more savvy than me could look at overheads, but I'm guessing less than half is left for salaries - which points to an average £23k per employee. These additional charitable subscriptions will come in welcome.
