So now we know. Both candidates to be our next Prime Minister say the BBC should shoulder the complete cost of free licences for the over-75s; Boris Johnson says the "Brexit Bashing Corporation" had a "generous settlement", and should reverse its current plans. The BBC has said the alternative is to close BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC News Channel, the BBC Scotland channel, Radio 5Live, Radio 5live Sports Extra and 10 local radio stations.
Let's just remind ourselves what would be left: BBC1 (with some regional variations); CBBC, CBeebies and BBC Parliament. Radio 1, 1xtra 2, 3, 4, 4 Extra, 6Music, the Asian Network and various local radio stations; Online services, including BBC3.
Currently BBC2 is used by 28.5m people every week; BBC4 10.6m; BBC News 6.3m; BBC Scotland 1.5m; Radio 5Live and Sports Extra 5.5m. Popular Conservatism in action.
