Jackie Bird has fronted her last Reporting Scotland, including staying up to give the News After Huw, commendably without fuss.
She says she's going to do more writing and other programming. It's been a long journey from her first job, writing for D C Thomson's Jackie magazine in the 1970s, based in Dundee.
She remembers: “We may have had a trendy address in London for readers to write to, but the sacks of mail were transported overnight in a van to Dundee where most of the writers like me lived in tenements and got the bus to work.
“In terms of opening doors, nothing I’ve done in my career beats the years when I was able to say: ‘I’m Jackie from Jackie’.”
