A slight lurch while cruising has seen the former Marnie Mercedes Darcey Pemberton Crittle slither from the decks of the SS Strictly. The brand that is Dame Darcey Bussell is leaving the ballroom dancing and snogging show after seven years as a judge.
Dame Darcey's public position is that it is time to move on. Dan Wootton in The Sun says she wanted an extra £40k a year, another documentary feature and some toning down of the off-screen antics of competitors.
Of course, salaries paid via BBC Studios are now secret. When last declared, Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas were in the £200-£250k band, and Darcey and Craig Revel-Horwood somewhere in £150-£200k. The show has a new, much younger executive producer in Sara James, who might not have seen Darcey as indispensable. Certainly it gives the 2019 run a new interest - which aspect of the BBC's myriad diversity quotas will Sara aim at in a replacement ?
