Shirley

The BBC's newest non-executive trained as an accountant with KPMG and has current experience of wealth management. Will this help with the impending over-75s licence fee hole ?

Shirley Garrood's delighted acceptance reads: “I have always been a fan of BBC programmes, so I am thrilled to support the Corporation as it aims to offer outstanding value for money in the digital age. I look forward to contributing to the future of the BBC as it informs, educates and entertains in ever changing times.”

She graduated with a first in Economics and Accounting from Bristol, then joined KPMG, Mercantile House Holdings, Municipal Mutual, Morley Fund Management, Aviva (where she was Chief Operating Officer) and then to Henderson Group, as COO and later CFO. She is currently senior independent director, deputy chair and chair of the Audit Committee at esure Group plc (£138k p.a.), and senior independent director and chair of the Risk Committee at Hargreaves Lansdown plc (£85k p.a).

Some phrases from her career path than might relax Beeboids who face her scrutiny. "Looking back, I’d have to say that opportunism has been behind many of my career moves." and "I do have a fairly low boredom threshold."
