I'm grateful to PodNews and the Daily Mirror for news of podcast daftness at the Department for International Trade.
In January this year, Dr Liam Fox, with the support of ministerial sidekick and legendary broadcasting expert Baroness Fairhead CBE, launched their first podcast series, Local to Global, as part of their unforgettable "Exporting is GREAT"campaign. The six-part series, presented by Nick Hewer, was to showcase stories of leading entrepreneurs and businesses. Said Rona "The exporting journey is not always without challenges, so the Exporting is GREAT podcast series aims to make potential exporters aware of the support available as well as the opportunities and benefits, making them more confident about taking the leap into overseas markets."
It cost £107,000 to make - with presumably the vast majority of that going to Mr Hewer. It has, according to the Mirror, achieved 8,398 downloads. That's £12.70 per download.
(Now, if you priced the peak advertising time secured for BBC Sounds, er.....)
