It's a month since the launch of BBC Scotland. When might we next see viewing figures, beyond opening night ?
The Gaelic-speakers at MG Alba, the body that oversees BBC Alba, are already asking for parity with the new channel. They want HD quality too, and a reduction in their reliance on repeats. Of course, Alba, does not get measured by BARB. They rely for their reach figures on specific market research, which, they say, is the only way to make sure they cover a representative range of Gaelic speakers. Last year, they claimed to reach 62% of them - on a downward trend, and down most in 16-44 year-olds. Weekly reach across all Scottish viewers was 10% a week.
BBC Scotland data should be on BARB, but ordinary punters can't access it. BARB reckons there are 2.5m tv households in Scotland. Meters are attached to sets in just under 600 homes, to deliver the overnight viewing figures. When, dear BBC, would be a good time to tell us what they say ?
