It happened again. PA put out a filler claiming the Royal Wedding might be watched on tv by 2 billion people worldwide, and someone from the BBC used it. This time it was Kirsty Young who talked about "1.9 billion, perhaps 2". On Radio 4 news bulletins they were much more circumspect, talking about "hundreds of millions".
We don't have UK figures yet, but early estimates suggest around 23 million were watching in the USA. That's an impressive 7 per cent of the population, clearly with an interest in Meghan as well as Harry. If 7 per cent of the world's population was a norm, that might deliver something over 500m. Proper estimates of William and Kate's wedding put their audience at 532m. That too, was accompanied aforehand by an estimate of two billion.
