Having perused the programme for the forthcoming Hay Festival, I believe I can save all of us time and money by creating a single event, ideally at Broadcasting House, which should give you all the flavour of the eleven days without the mud and expense.
The billing goes something like this: Books Make Money: Stig Abell, assisted by Amol Rajan, Rosie Boycott, Nik Gowing, Melvyn Bragg and Francine Stock, talks to a panel comprising Philippe Sands, Peter Florence, Michael Gove and David Walliams, with music provided by Jake Bugg, and jokes from Jeremy Hardy. Gemma Cairney rounds off the evening with a silent disco. Children can be left in Cavendish Square, learning foraging and fire-making skills. All over in a matter of hours.
