It might be entertaining to know how much of last night's Have I Got News For You ? ended up on the virtual cuttting room floor. Host Jeremy Dickson Paxman, 67, missed whole syllables from the autocue more than once, and produced some bizarre inflections. His personal volume control needed attention throughout. Towards the end, his attempts at moving the quiz forward had the tone of a Malvern College Prefect who might have been at the sherry decanter with the threat of rustication hanging over him. When panellist and BBC Business report Steph McGovern called him a patronising old git, she wasn't joking.
