Steve

Congratulations to Steve Carson, selected to run the planned new tv channel for BBC Scotland, replacing Ewan Angus.

Steve, 49, from a Northern Ireland Presbyterian background, got a 2:1 in Politics and Modern History from Manchester (slipping back from winning the MacKenzie prize in the first part of his degree). He's currently running BBC Northern Ireland Productions, having been a big wheel in RTE for a number of years. He's married to RTE radio and tv presenter Miriam O'Callaghan - her second marriage; she already had four daughters, and she's now had four boys with Steve.

Photographs from Steve's career suggest unfortunate flirtations with hair products. Miriam says he's lost weight since working weekdays in Belfast; he'll be a rake by the time he's finished in Glasgow.
