Lord Ashton of Hyde will bring a little military discipline to the DCMS, on his appointment as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State.
Henry, who turned 58 on Monday, went to Eton and Trinity College, Oxford. He served with the Prince of Wales' Own Royal Hussars and rose to Lieutenant with the Royal Wessex Yeomanry. In his thirties he headed to the world of insurance, eventually becoming a member of the Lloyds Council.
Like his pa, he was joint master of the Heythrop Hunt from 2007 to 2008. In 2008, he succeeded his father to become 4th Baron, and was 'elected' to the Lords in 2011. He's sold the family pile at Broadwell Hill, Moreton in Marsh, in favour of a farm in Upper Slaughter. He has four daughters - Harriet, Isabel, Flora and Matilda.
The Ashton dynasty made their money as millowners in Cheshire. The family motto is "With Faith and Valour", Their crest is "On a mount Vert a Mower proper vested paly Argent and Sable in the act of whetting his Scythe also proper". I can almost visualise it.
