As one wag put it, from one hell-hole to another. BBC Director of Monitoring, Lucio Mesquita, is off after less than a year in post - from Caversham to Port of Spain, Trinidad. He's going to run the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian media group, which operates in print and online, has a tv channel CNC3, and six radio stations.
He leaves behind 200 staff uncertain about where they'll work and if they'll work. A move from Caversham Park has been flagged to save money, and, unless £2.5m of additional commercial income from Monitoring's services can be found, there'll be around 50 job cuts to come.
