The BBC's David Holdsworth tells Radio Times he's confident he can deliver female presenters to three more local radio breakfast shows before the New Year. This month, he expects an 18th show to add a woman to the billed line-up; the target set by Lord Hall is 50% out the total of 41.
He admits to being contacted by one or two worried male presenters, asking: “Is the game up for me?” He says he tells them that all that has changed is that every time a vacancy comes up, the BBC is now casting the net a little wider when looking to fill it. First, of course, you have to find a vacancy. By my reckoning 23 blokes will be a bit twitchy when the station manager says "Can you pop in for a chat after the show ?" for another 99 days.
