Am I missing something here ? Isn't Hague's resignation about a wish to spend more time making money ? At one stage he was dubbed the UK's top earning MP, with a clutch of non-exec directorships, a contract with the News of the World, and speeches at £10k to £15k a pop. His register of interests, which used to talk about sharing ownership of a London flat with his parents and aunt, and a small property in Spain, now merely mentions "Leasehold property in London". Still, he does have honorary life membership of the Carlton and Buck's; free membership of the Travellers Club this year, and dining rights at Lincoln's Inn.
He's 53, and his recent disclosed additional income looks poor. It includes cheques for reading out his biography of Pitt the Younger.
Payments from AudioGO Ltd, St James House, The Square, Lower Bristol Rd, Bath BA2 3BH:
£65.19 received.
