Post post

I shall miss The Daily Post, the newspaper of my youth, and visits back to Liverpool and North Wales. In print since The Crimean War, it ceases publication for good next week.

Growing up in Huyton, it was delivered every morning, combining international, national and local news. For heritage reasons, my father chose the Welsh edition, stamped when colour printing came with a red dragon. This was sometimes printed too early to capture anything but bare results from evening football, and carried two or three pages of news from exotic places like Mold, Coedpoeth and Brymbo. But, when it did have full match reports, from Everton and Liverpool, they were long, detailed, and well-written. And they did great souvenir editions.
