No conferring

University Challenge's seasonal alumni fest offers a mouthwatering list of broadcasting names this year. If you're inclined to bet, surely Gonville & Caius, Cambridge, with Mark "Two Brains" Damazer and Lars Tharp from the Antiques Roadshow, must be worth an each-way punt.

They face Christ Church, Oxford in the first round, with burly Adam Boulton and Yentob-in-waiting Andrew Graham-Dixon in their ranks.

There are two other Oxbridge sides: St Hugh's, Oxford, boasts Dame Liz Forgan and Radio 3 hostess Suzy Klein. Emmanuel, Cambridge, has selected historian Simon Singh and roly-poly comedian Rory McGrath.

Other familiar names: Paul Lewis, of Radio 4's Money Box and the BBC Breakfast sofa, represents Stirling. From the same sofa, for Sussex, comes newspaper reviewer Simon Fanshawe, alongside Alice Arnold, ex R4 newsreader, and Rob Bonnet of Today's sports news team.

Rory Bremner turns out for King's College, London; Leicester has Sue Cook (once of the BBC Shopping Basket on You and Yours), and an astronomical pairing of Heather Couper and Paul Abel. Reading has weatherman Jay Wynne; Southampton selects gardener Stefan Buczacki; Kent features Fi Glover of The Listening Project and science presenter James Wong; and Lancaster offers foodie Matthew Fort and Daybreak's Ranvir Singh.
