There was a hoo-ha when it was revealed that George Entwistle's pay off on resignation as BBC DG was a year's salary - double the six month's pay to which he was contractually entitled.
Today, the Sunday Times and the Sunday Telegraph talk about Caroline Thomson receiving two cheques on her departure from the role of Chief Operating Officer, a post now closed. She apparently got £300k redundancy, and £300k in lieu of notice.
Both figures look odd. Her final salary was £307,000; her total package was £328,000. She'd been in continuous employment for 16 years - so redundancy should have been closer to £400k. And presumably she was on the same executive contract as George, with six month's notice; so that should have been closer to £153k. The annual report will have added frisson for Lord Patten this year - if he's still around in July 2013.
