In all the hoo-ha over BBC local radio cuts, here's one that seems a tad mean. The Naked Scientists, a group of Cambridge-based real scientists, have been doing a fun, accessible, interactive slot carried on various BBC local radio stations in the East of England, which started way back in 2001. On the way, they've had various other outlets, including specials and features on Five Live, and a very successful podcast.
From January, their local radio gig disappears. It's thought that as little as £40 a week changes hands. I look forward to a BBC manager telling me how local radio has absorbed science coverage into the mainstream.
