Patient bulletin

BBC1 Controller Danny Cohen will take some comfort from an overnight average rating of 5.7m for last night's  episode of The Voice - up 0.1m on last week. There was a slight overlap with the Chelsea-Bayern Munich match, on ITV. Next week there's a shorter overlap with Roy Hodgson's first outing as England manager - the Norway game is also live on ITV.  So The Voice is hoping for added pzazz and viewer appeal from performances by Cheryl Cole and Kylie Minogue.

I expect BBC ratings wizards are already preparing figures that show much more watching on catch-up in its various forms.

There are other stresses for Danny - the youngest contestant said a bad word live last night, and Jessie J's microphone failed to deliver to her ear-pieces at the start of her team performance. And his stars are negotiating their salaries for the second series through the newspapers, particularly The Daily Mirror.

Right: G8 leaders out of their chairs for Bo Bruce's performance last night
