Hotel Football

Gary Neville, footballer, pundit and property developer, has won planning permission for a 10-storey hotel just across the road from Manchester United's Old Trafford Stadium. It's been designed by Manchester Architects AEW (who have at least three Travelodges and a previous Neville mansion under their belt).

Mr Neville's agents were RED Property Services, who've also been helping Gary with his ambition to build an eco-home, dubbed a TellyTubby house, designed by MAKE architects, on greenbelt above Harwood, Bolton.  Recent press reports suggest that's on hold, as Gary is spending more and more time in London as Sky's football analyst.

The proposed hotel, on the site of the former Kilvert's Lard Refinery, faced objections from Manchester United. The factory was demolished in 1968, and it is a little surprising that Gary got the land before the club did. Gary is developing it along with the Manchester United Football Supporters' Club, using funds raised in his testimonial.  It will clearly a useful overnight stop for those fans, before their long journeys back to The Home Counties.
