Engineering Information

The techies have boarded Broadcasting House.  They've established a forward position on the 6th floor of the new building, according to Ariel, and will be sweeping through the development in waves, knocking out pockets of resistance until total control has been established (I made that last bit up). This news signifies that that technology is still the tail that wags the dog of the BBC.  There will be, apparently, 160 people maintaining  kit in the building.  Any other broadcaster got that many ?

This continued engineering dominance of the organisation (it has been thus since the 1930s) is all the more surprising given the dress sense of their leaders, and their odd language. Here's Miles Hosking, Controller, Technology Operations (called Controller, but not listed in the top 300 salaries).

'Achieving a seamless transition for a 24hr support service is a huge challenge but we've every confidence in our thorough transition plan which includes dual running from existing sites whilst we complete our phased move over the coming months.'
