Time for a lie-in
The "axe" that is hanging over ITV Daybreak has fallen - and all the remains is for the spinmeisters to explain the departures of Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. The harder job falls to whoever emerges as long term replacements. All presenters need editors and producers who stand by them, and defend them against executives who have the certainty of fools that they know better. 15 months is a relatively short time in breakfast broadcasting - how many years was BBC Breakfast behind GMTV in the ratings ? Adrian and Christine will have more relaxing lives - and, I'm guessing, reasonable continuity of employment.
