Journalists at the BBC will be delighted to see their Chief Operating Officer Caroline Thomson has made it to Washington for a short symposium, promoted by an organisation called "Save The News".

Twitter quotes from her include "News is just too important to leave to those who shout loudest...or have the biggest purse". The BBC News purse, of course, will be a little smaller over the next five years, because of cuts imposed in order to Deliver Quality First. Anyone thought of sending someone from the BBC's Washington Office to some of these major events ?
