The rather piecemeal "saving" of bits of BBC output from the depredations of "Delivering Quality First" continues. After DG and Oxford resident Mark Thompson made it clear that the future of regional tv news for Oxford (and Cambridge, and the Channel Islands) was "safe" in an exchange of letters with local MP and PM David Cameron, COO Caroline Thomson has been doing a little letter writing as well.
In reply to the leader of Carlisle City Council, who was concerned about the future of BBC Radio Cumbria, she talks about "no decisions yet", and "difficult choices" and "painful decisions" ahead. Then, in her own hand, “As you may know, I spend a lot of time in Cumbria and I can assure you Radio Cumbria is safe.”
