Baffled ?

You get to a point, I'm afraid, where you develop theories based on insufficient information. It's what I like doing - but this one is a little too unformed to share.  So please make up your own take on the news that BBC News' Finance Director, Richard Dawkins, has been appointed to the new, and apparently unadvertised, role of Controller, News and Audio & Music Strategy.  The remit may alarm those in both divisions.   Strategy hasn't been an enormous forte in radio, where the closure of 6Music and The Asian Network was proposed and rejected.  Strategy in news under Mark Byford, driving to a single Journalism divison, was clear - and unfortunately unsaddled its instigator.

Will Jackson is head of strategy at Audio & Music; Mark Byford's strategy has been driven by Richard Addy. The announcement comes from Dominic Coles, who, despite the demise of the Journalism Board, still styles himself Chief Operating Officer, BBC Journalism Group and London 2012.
