Shrinking
It's hard to capture the mood at Bush House this week. Services are closing as the end of the financial year approaches, and the speeches and parties are both sad - and an opportunity for celebration, re-unions and reminiscing. Chinese radio output in Mandarin has ended; there's no radio in Russian; the Caribbean service is no more; Europe Today has finished; and outside the newsroom there's a special table for people to sign autograph books for those leaving. It's going to be hard to keep spirits up ahead of the move to Broadcasting House, still ten months or so away.
