Selling Salford

The BBC seems to be on another publicity drive selling Salford - but can't always do it discreetly.  Matthew Engel was given a tour of MediaCityUK for a wide-ranging piece on the BBC in 2011 in the Financial Times, and that seems to have gone alright.

More riskily, Ephraim Hardcastle's sources have discovered a jaunt "up North" by the unlikely trio of AA Gill, Rod Liddle and Alan Yentob.  What's worrying is that they travelled standard class (that's "second class" in Yentob parlance) - and were overheard.  I suspect the resulting piece, if it makes the Sunday Times this week, may be even worse for the BBC.

Meanwhile BBC Breakfast presenter, Sian Williams has been spotted on a train to Manchester, for a look around the programme's 2012 base. Apparently the ticket inspector said she had no need to show one. 18 days to decision time, Sian.
