Donald Steel has announced he's leaving the BBC at the end of this month. The redoubtable spokesman moved from the front line in December 2009, after 11 years as Head of Press/Chief Press Officer. He currently rejoices in the title Chief Communications Adviser.
This less taxing role has allowed Donald to start blogging and tweeting - by which we learn he's been to conferences in Singapore and Dubai (twice) in the past year, and enjoys "gin martinis with amalfi lemons frozen gin/glass-no olives (vulgar)".
