Sometimes natural disasters and their true impact are difficult to call. This morning, BBC Breakfast left rolling coverage of the tsunami to the BBC News Channel. BBC1 viewers sailed on with a rather "newslite" approach to the day, whilst some of the most dramatic live pictures any of us will see rolled on BBC News, Sky, Al Jazeera and CNN. Between 0730 and 0800, Charlie and Susannah discussed funny words used by garage mechanics, with both a live report and studio discussion, as debris swept the north east coast of Japan, and fires burned. No caption saying if you'd like a visit to the real world, try another channel.
Perhaps beards matter more to the red sofa audience.
