The rumour that QPR might built a new stadium on land that is currently part of the BBC Television Centre site has surfaced in the press. BBC insiders have been hinting at discussions with Bernie Ecclestone for some time, but The Independent puts more flesh on the proposal.
In planning and business terms, the idea has some big obstacles. If the TV Centre site is re-developed to provide offices, shops and residential, as well as a stadium, would enough buyers be prepared to move in that close to a football ground ? (Arsenal's Emirates development suggests it can be done with flats at least). If the TV Centre site is re-developed, who on earth would buy QPR's South Africa Road ground, and at what price ? And if the TV Centre site has a 35,000 seat stadium at its heart, how does that qualify the development as a Creative Quarter ?
