There are quite a lot of gags around based on the ITV drama series Downton Abbey at the moment. Private Eye has a elegant cover and a Coalition parody inside which looks set to run and run. And tonight, in the London Evening Standard, Roy Greenslade considers Mark Thompson as the Earl of Grantham — a liberal gentleman with a goodish fortune trying to protect an institution faced by problems in the servant quarters.
It's worth noting that Downton is a Carnival Films/Masterpiece co-production for ITV. The Managing Director of Carnival is Gareth Neame, ex-BBC; the Creative Director is Sally Woodward Gentle, ex-BBC; Executive Producer Christopher Aird is ex-BBC; and Development Executive Sam Symons is ex-BBC.
