The tram service to MediaCityUK has resumed today. It first started on Monday 20th September, but by Tuesday evening on the 21st, a tram had derailed while reversing near the Harbour City stop, bashing into a lamp-post. No-one was hurt.
I'm no expert on tramlines, but others have written that the Metrolink trams change tracks by manually operated "spring-points", which might or might not have been in the right position. Whatever the true cause of the derailment, today's resumption of the journey in and out of MediaCityUK was observed, according to one established Twitterer, by eight men in hi-visibility jackets. At least one member of the BBC's R&D team got off; three other less gracious Twitterers have bemoaned the increased journey time between Eccles and Manchester city centre.
The long-term plan from GMPTE published today is additional tram services to Trafford Park and perhaps to Stockport.
