Broomhead

Steve Broomhead is stepping down as Chief Executive of the NWDA at the end of this month - the organisation itself will fold sometime in 2012, as the Coalition seeks to replace regional development agencies with Local Enterprise Partnerships.

Earlier this year Ian Haythornthwaite left the NWDA for a job as finance chief, BBC North.

Steve lives near Preston, but has strong connections with Warrington, where the NWDA employs over 400 staff. This year he became chairman of Warrington Wolves rugby league club.

From the Warrington Guardian
Until 2003, he was Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council.  From 1994 to 1997, he was the Principal of Warrington Collegiate Institute. Prior to this, he was Principal of a Tertiary college in Easington, County Durham (1990-1994) and Vice Principal of Skelmersdale College in Lancashire (1986-1990). He's a Governor of the University of Central Lancashire and Chairman of Governors at Skelmersdale College.

It's puzzling that such an upstanding pillar should have carelessly forwarded a dodgy joke or two on his mobile. They were only discovered after the NWDA had taken on a driver from a local hire car company. The owner of the company was not pleased about losing his driver, and found the jokes when the company mobile was handed in. Steven Broomhead apologised after an investigation.

Steven's role as CEO of the NWDA for the past seven years has been vital for MediaCityUK.  It's hard to work out an exact total of its support for Peel, and associated infrastructure projects. My guess is £40m +, but I'm sure others will have more exact figures.
