A busy 24 hours for BBC radio executives. Controller Radio 1 Andy Parfitt is alerted to non-payment of Chris Moyles, not by listening to his on-air rant, not by producers, not apparently by newspapers picking the story up 8 hours later, but by Moyles ringing in. According to Moyles' account, reported by the Guardian, Andy was concerned, "Are you all right ?". Many would answer no. Anyway, whatever the glitch in delivering moolah to Moyles, it has now been "sorted". I suspect if you're the BBC accountant who's been dealing with Moyles - and probably are still waiting on the answer to some legitimate questions - you're pretty grumpy this morning.
Until this year, Moyles' salary was estimated at £630k pa, i.e. in two months, he's missed £103k. But nobody yet has posted a new figure for the Radio 1 charmer since Thommo said get tough with talent contracts. A wag, by the name of Andy Parsnip, on Tim Davie's new blog suggests late payments might be a good example of performance-related pay.
