Adrian Van Klaveren got a bit roughed up by one of his own presenters yesterday. Victoria Derbyshire quizzed him on-air about what commitment he made to a Salford move when he got the job as Controller of Radio 5Live. (A number of potential applicants for the job dropped out because they believed the interview process would insisted on signing up to go).
On the other hand, if they'd asked Leo Devine, he'd probably have leapt at it. Leo is shortly moving from London to Plymouth, to run the BBC's services in the South West. He started in radio in programmes like You and Yours, but in 1991 got on his bike. As far as I can tell, he's held posts in Leicester, Truro, Bristol, Plymouth, Cambridge, Tunbridge Wells, Manchester and then back to London. If he's moved house each time, one suspects he's sitting on a bit of equity. If he didn't, he's probably done well out of allowances.
Leo's cv reminded me that Adrian Van Klaveren had a spell as Head of Local Programmes for the West Midlands, based in Birmingham. Did he move then ?
