The BBC World Service Annual Review is also out today, and there's an element of tension about future cash from the FCO. Funding for the current financial year from the FCO has been reduced from £271m to £264m - and with Government departments asked to consider plans for 40% savings over the years ahead, the FCO may have to find £840m from its current £2.1bn. Even a 25% cut would take the World Service income below £200m a year.
It'll be a disappointment to many in the BBC that advertising on the BBC's international websites is not plugging future gaps. The international version of the News website lost £13m last year, despite growing unique users to 54m a month.
