Unsurprisingly, a number of interest groups in the north-west have joined together to campaign for something similar to follow the North West Development Agency, confirmed as under threat in the Budget. The NWDA employs 480 people, and distributed over £500m in government and EU funds last year. The coalition preferred route is to replace these big agencies with Local Enterprise Partnerships, more likely to follow local authority boundaries than regional clusters.
Place North West reports that the Peel Group is one of the principal signatories to the campaign letter.
